Fanatics joins a robust sports betting market in Indiana
There are 14 active sportsbooks serving the Indiana sports betting market. As many as 20 are allowed under state gaming statutes. The state legalized and launched sports betting in 2019, making it one of the first states to do so. In January, sports fans placed wagers totaling $480.5 million in Indiana. In 2023, more than $2 billion was wagered.
Historically, DraftKings and FanDuel have been industry leaders based on total handle. Earlier this month, Betr debuted its micro-betting app in Indiana.
Consumers in Indiana at least 21 years of age can now register, make a deposit and place bets with Fanatics. Verification is required for age, and geolocation will verify the physical location of the applicant.
Fanatics acquires PointsBet’s US operations to enter sports betting market
Known for its sports apparel business, Fanatics is making a late entry into the sports betting market. But it has made quite an impact so far. Last year, the company purchased the US operations of PointsBet. That sportsbook has been replaced in most states where it was licensed by Fanatics Sportsbook.
Fanatics has made a significant investment in its sportsbook. It paid a reported $225 million for PointsBet in 2023.
According to Fanatics Betting and Gaming Chief Product Officer Scot McClintic, the sportsbook’s plan is to disrupt the market with innovation.
“We are laser focused on solving pain points facing customers by offering a faster, easier and a more rewarding sports betting experience. The strategic patience to build a product for the long term has given us an opportunity to redefine a customer’s expectation of what a sportsbook should be.”
Fanatics Sportsbook features ‘FastCash’ money-back program
Fanatics Sportsbook debuted via a launch in four states simultaneously last August.
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- Ohio
- Tennessee
It now operates in 10 additional states, including Indiana.
Fanatics plans to enter five more sports betting markets in coming months.
- Kansas
- Louisiana
- New Jersey
- New York
- Wyoming
The Fanatics sports betting app boasts exclusive features such as “FanCash,” a cash-back program that rewards customers each time they place a parlay, straight bet, or take advantage of odds boosts. FanCash can also earn store credit at any of the 60 Fanatics retail stores worldwide.
Differentiation is clearly a goal for Fanatics. The company has expressed a desire to produce the fastest and easiest to use mobile sports betting app in the industry, while also indicating it will pursue new technologies and innovation to make the sportsbook experience better.
