DraftKings Gives All Users A Bonus To Celebrate Third Annual ‘Free To Bet Day’

It’s “May Madness” as the NBA races to conclude its regular season and MLB is in full swing. Adding to the excitement is DraftKings Sportsbook’s annual “Free to Bet Day”, which is a celebration of the repeal of PASPA.

It couldn’t come at a better time for Indiana sports betting, especially for those looking to bet on the Pacers, a team that will fight to make the playoffs via the play-in tournament.

If basketball isn’t your style, there are plenty of other events to wager on as well.

Friday is DraftKings’ Free to Bet Day

“Free to Bet Day” gives all DraftKings Indiana customers exactly what the name suggests. New and old users alike in Indiana get a wager on the house worth $5.14. All you need to do is create or sign in to your account on May 14, then opt into the promotion.

If you’re new to DraftKings, you’ll still get all the standard incentives that first-time users regularly enjoy, in addition to the bonus bet. You have to use the bonus bet on Friday, however.

Also, if you win your bet, that promotional amount won’t be included in the return.

So, why does DraftKings mark this day every year? It all comes down to the events of May 14, 2018.

That’s the day that the US Supreme Court issued its decision in NCAA v. Murphy. In that ruling, the Supreme Court deemed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) of 1992 unconstitutional.

PASPA’s repeal cleared the way for all states to legalize sports betting. As a result, DraftKings is a much bigger business today than it was prior to the decision.

As another result, bettors in Indiana have a lot of choices for legal wagers they can place Friday. Getting to do so with zero risk makes it even more fun.

What to use your free wager on

The NBA Playoffs start soon and the Pacers have clinched one of the Eastern Conference’s four play-in spots. The team they will play and where the matchup will happen is yet to be determined. However, they will definitely have a shot to qualify for the standard 16-team bracket.

DraftKings is currently offering +150 odds on them winning their play-in game. Thus, the bonus bet would pay out $7.71 in real money if the Pacers do advance (remember, you don’t get the promotional credit in your winnings, only the profit).

If you’re looking for a more immediate settlement, the Fever are the visiting team in the first game of the 2021 WNBA regular season on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.

Currently, DraftKings has the Fever +1 (-113) against the New York Liberty. A Fever upset would give you $4.55 in actual cash using your bonus bet. Other action available on DraftKings for this weekend includes:

  • MLB: Kansas City Royals at Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs at Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds at Colorado Rockies
  • NWSL: Racing Louisville at Kansas City
  • PGA: AT&T Byron Nelson
  • UFC 262: Oliveira vs. Chandler

While meaningful basketball games and the rest of the full sports calendar are enjoyable on their own, winning some cash off them enhances the excitement. Doing so on DraftKings’ dime is even better.
