Indiana Sportsbooks Release Odds On Shortened 2020 MLB Season

Posted on July 14, 2020 - Last Updated on March 20, 2024

The MLB is finally making its season debut after months of hiatus.

Things will get underway on July 23, as the New York Yankees visit the defending champion Washington Nationals.

With the season starting so many months later than usual, teams will only be playing a 60-game schedule in 2020.

The situation may be a strange one, but that won’t stop Indiana’s favorite teams from going for a pennant.

Even though Indiana doesn’t have its own MLB franchise, plenty of Hoosiers are still baseball fans. Nearby teams like the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago White Sox attract the bulk of attention.

MLB season opener odds from BetMGM

Right now, BetMGM is the only online sports betting app in Indiana that has odds for every team’s season opener.

At least for now, the list of betting choices is limited to moneyline bets. The options will expand as opening day gets closer, but for now, we can at least get a glance at how oddsmakers feel about some of Indiana’s favorite teams.

The Cubs, Reds and White Sox all have their first games on July 24, a day after the league’s season opener.

The Milwaukee Brewers will head to Wrigley Field for a divisional bout with the Cubs. The Cubs are the -115 favorites for that season opener, with the Brewers as the +105 underdogs.

Cincinnati has a home game on the docket to start the team’s year. Right now, the Reds are -176 to take down the +145 Detroit Tigers in their first game.

The White Sox also have a divisional game right off the bat to kick off their schedule. Chicago’s south-side team is the slight -105 favorite to beat the -115 Minnesota Twins.

In addition to each team’s season openers, Indiana’s sportsbooks have plenty of more specific betting options for each team.

DraftKings and Chicago Cubs betting

DraftKings sportsbook has some unique head-to-head win total betting options.

Those options pit the Cubs against other MLB teams, with bettors having to choose which of the two teams will win more regular season games. Here’s a look at a few of those options:

  • Cubs vs. White Sox: Cubs -124, White Sox +100
  • Cubs vs. Cardinals: Cubs -114, Cardinals -109
  • Cubs vs. Red Sox: Cubs -124, Red Sox +100

DraftKings also has odds on the team’s postseason hopes.

At +2,200, the Cubs have the ninth-best odds to win their second World Series in the last five years.

Similarly, Chicago has the sixth-best odds to come out on top of the National League at +1,100.

When it comes to the NL Central division, the Cubs are the favorites to come on top.

  • Chicago Cubs:+215
  • St. Louis Cardinals: +240
  • Cincinnati Reds: +260
  • Milwaukee Brewers:+320
  • Pittsburgh Pirates: +4,000

PointsBet and the Cincinnati Reds

Indiana has had plenty of Reds fans since the days of the Big Red Machine.

The team hasn’t had a winning season since 2013, but there’s still some interesting betting options out there for the team.

The Reds still have ace pitcher Trevor Bauer on the roster.

Bauer has some decent odds to throw the most regular season strikeouts this year, according to PointsBet. Here’s a look at some of those odds:

  • Gerrit Cole: +225
  • Max Scherzer: +550
  • Justin Verlander: +700
  • Jacob deGrom: +750
  • Shane Bieber: +1,200
  • Trevor Bauer: +1,600
  • Jack Flaherty: +1,600

Bauer is also on the board for CY Young betting, and has the ninth-best odds in the National League to take home the award. Here’s a look at some of the players surrounding him:

  • Stephen Strasburg: +1,100
  • Luis Castillo: +1,300
  • Yu Darvish: +1,400
  • Trevor Bauer: +1,600
  • Clayton Kershaw: +1,800
  • Aaron Nola: +1,800
  • Patrick Corbin: +1,800

Betting on the White Sox with FanDuel

The White Sox have only made the playoffs once since their World Series title in 2005.

Despite the dry spell, the White Sox could easily end up being the best team out of these three.

FanDuel online sportsbook has betting odds out for a lot of the talented young players on the roster.

Second baseman Yoan Moncada is on the list of possible American League MVP’s. Although he’s a bit of a long shot at +3,000, Moncada still has the ninth-best odds to win the award.

Shortstop Tim Anderson led the entire MLB in batting average last season with a .335 showing. Anderson has the sixth-best odds to rack up the most regular season hits in 2020.

  • Nolan Arenado: +1,200
  • DJ LeMahieu: +1,300
  • Jose Altuve: +1,400
  • Francisco Lindor: +1,500
  • Ketel Marte: +1,800
  • Tim Anderson: +2,000

FanDuel is expecting the White Sox to be in the hunt for the AL Central crown. The team is sitting at +310 to take the division, although the Twins and Indians still have better odds at -130 and +260.

Since there’s a ton of betting options out there right now, there’s something for every baseball fan. Even if these three teams aren’t your favorite, you won’t miss out on the action for the 2020 season.
