Pat McAfee’s New Deal With FanDuel Is A First For US Sportsbooks

Posted on July 9, 2020

Pat McAfee and FanDuel have made history.

The new partnership between the two is the first-ever deal between a legal sportsbook and a sports media personality.

The former Indianapolis Colts punter has worked with FanDuel in the past, but now their partnership is exclusive.

FanDuel Sportsbook will be an integrated part of McAfee’s shows from here on out. McAfee will also be pumping out custom betting options for the sportsbook that are specific to Indiana residents.

Expect more Spread the Love promos

This new deal could be a big win for bettors.

McAfee will be releasing more of his own custom Spread the Love promotions through FanDuel.

Ever since these promos started, they’ve been basically free money for Hoosiers.

The Colts were +8.5 underdogs for their game against the New Orleans Saints back in December 2019. That didn’t last for long.

For every 250 people that opted in to FanDuel’s promo, the spread moved one point in favor of Colts bettors. By kickoff, that +8.5 had skyrocketed up to +51.

Obviously, with a spread that ridiculous, it would have been a shock to see the Colts drop the ball.

When the game ended, Indy’s 34-7 loss ended up being a huge win for the over 10,000 gamblers who got in on the action.

The promotion only had a $50 max bet, but hey, it’s hard to complain when odds like that are on the table.

The Spread the Love event was McAfee’s idea, and at the time, he and FanDuel were planning more of these promos.  McAfee says he’s excited to take the relationship to the next level.

“FanDuel has been an amazing partner of ours for the past year, and I’ve loved everything I’ve done with them whether it was helping launch mobile sports betting here in Indiana or the Spread the Love promotions. With this expanded partnership and FanDuel’s distribution and media muscle I can’t think of a better place to reach and entertain sports fanatics.”

FanDuel also ran a Spread the Love event for IU basketball back in January. The Hoosiers started out as +4.5 underdogs against Michigan State, and ended at an insane +101.5.

With McAfee creating more of these events for FanDuel in the future, Indiana gamblers certainly have something to look forward to.

FanDuel now a part of McAfee’s shows

The new partnership doesn’t end with sportsbook promotions.

FanDuel will now be an integrated part of everything McAfee does. That includes his daily shows, social media content and podcasts.

McAfee will have access to FanDuel’s branding and odds to use for all of his shows.

Additionally, McAfee’s new deal will help him grow his audience.

FanDuel will be broadcasting The Pat McAfee Show live on several of its platforms, including SportsGrid and TVG. It’s all about expanding the McAfee and FanDuel branding.

It will also be providing the show with some extra cash flow to help keep things sharp.

Adam Kaplan, the vice president of digital content for FanDuel, says McAfee will help the company continue to grow its media presence.

“Pat has delivered incredible results and proves to be a key asset as we continue to elevate our media strategy. With the energy that Pat and his team bring, combined with his positive and uplifting approach to entertainment, I can’t think of anyone better to be the face of our brand and content network.”

FanDuel’s deal with McAfee may be the first of its kind, but it likely won’t be the last. If things go well, the company may sign more personalities to its sportsbook brand.

FanDuel’s competitors, like DraftKings Sportsbook, might even ink similar deals in the future. There’s no way to know for sure what will happen, but expect McAfee’s deal with FanDuel to act as a test run for any deals like this that might come in the future.
