The Stoolies Are Coming: Barstool Indiana Sportsbook Launching May 18

Posted on May 14, 2021 - Last Updated on March 20, 2024

Barstool Sportsbook is finally ready to make its Indiana debut.

The company will open its digital doors for business on May 18.

Once it launches, Barstool will become Indiana’s 11th online sportsbook.

Barstool Sportsbook tackles Midwest

Barstool is already taking bets in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Illinois.

That Midwest trend continues with the company’s Indiana launch.

The online sportsbook plans to open in every legal market by the end of the year, and its Hoosier State debut has been a much-anticipated one.

A pair of retail Barstool Sportsbooks opened up in Indiana back in December. Those in-person sportsbooks are located at Ameristar East Chicago and Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg.

Penn National Gaming owns both casinos, and it also owns a large chunk of the Barstool brand. That ownership stake will keep Penn working with the online version of the sportsbook once it opens for business.

Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg dominates

Online sportsbooks have to team up with a retail casino before they can launch in Indiana.

Since Penn owns Barstool and Hollywood Lawrenceburg, the company decided to pair the two up together.

Penn is hoping to reinforce the casino’s status as a dominant player in Indiana’s gambling industry.

The in-person Barstool book at Hollywood is already a massive success. It’s one of the most popular sportsbooks in the entire country.

Hollywood’s sportsbook handled over $8.4 million worth of wagers during April alone. That was a big step up from Ameristar’s second-place $5.1 million haul.

Adding Barstool’s online sportsbook into the mix could take Hollywood’s Indiana dominance to another level.

Hollywood is already working with PointsBet Sportsbook, so Barstool will be the casino’s second online partner.

Big spring for Indiana sportsbooks

All things considered, it’s a great time to be a gambler in Indiana.

Two new companies just entered the market last month. WynnBET came online April 1 to start things off on the right foot. TwinSpires also joined the party on April 20.

TwinSpires company is really just a rebranding of BetAmerica, but it’s still an entirely new platform and interface for gamblers.

Now Barstool’s May 18 launch is adding to the fun.

That will give Hoosiers more betting options than ever before.

Indiana is already one of the biggest sports betting markets in the country, and things are still growing. A handful of other companies plan to open for business in the state this year.

New Indiana online sportsbooks

Six different online sportsbooks launched in Indiana last year, and 2021 is already on pace to be another big year of growth.

In addition to WynnBET and Barstool, these other online sportsbooks are coming to Indiana before the end of the year:

  • SBK Sportsbook
  • 888sport
  • MaximBet
  • fubo Sportsbook

When it’s all said and done, Hoosiers will have more sportsbooks to pick from than ever before.

That all starts when Barstool Sportsbook opens for business.
