The Kentucky Derby is less than a month away and Horseshoe Indianapolis is already gearing up for the action. The casino is hosting a full day of events that are based around the big race.

This year’s Kentucky Derby will be taking place on May 7. That Saturday will be the 148th running of the race.

Horseshoe Indianapolis Kentucky Derby races

Horseshoe Indianapolis is one of the two horse racing casinos in Indiana. It’s also the closest casino to the state’s capital.

If you’ve never heard of that casino before, it might be thanks to the rebranding. The property was named Indiana Grand Racing and Casino until recently.

Horseshoe Indianapolis is lining up a slate of races to complement the Run for the Roses. Hoosiers that are hitting the track will get to watch a full day of events.

Those races won’t be running at the same time as the events at Churchill Downs, so racing fans won’t have to miss a second of the action.

Eric Halstrom, the casino’s general manager of racing, says that staggering the races was a priority.

“We wanted to offer a program that would allow fans to enjoy a full day of racing leading up to the running of the Kentucky Derby. By starting our program just before Churchill’s first race, we will be able to run our races between the ones from Kentucky without any overlap. This will give racing fans who enjoy coming out to our track more races to watch and wager on throughout the day.”

You’ll need reservations for Clubhouse Dining if you plan on attending all of the Derby day events.

The package includes a continental breakfast, an afternoon lunch and a dinner buffet. That’s in addition to a Kentucky Derby glass, a Horseshoe Indianapolis hat and other items.

And, of course, a seat at the racetrack where you can watch all of the action at the casino and Churchill Downs. The entire package will run you $130.

If you’re interested in the event, then be sure to call 317-421-8801 to make your reservation.

Other Kentucky Derby events

Horseshoe Indianapolis also has other activities planned for the day that don’t involve horse races.

The casino is handing out three $1,000 Megabet Win prizes during its Kentucky Derby day events.

Hoosiers can also take part in free contests throughout the day, in addition to T-Rex racing with the jockeys and a golf simulator.

Everything gets underway when the first race starts at 10:10 a.m. Events will take place throughout the day until the end of the Kentucky Derby. The big race has a post time of 6:55 p.m.

A full day of events is a huge win for gamblers that like to bet on horse racing.

Of course, you’re welcome to stay and enjoy the traditional casino once the races are over. The Kentucky Derby only happens once a year, so this race day party at Horseshoe Indianapolis could be a great way to make an entire day out of the event.
