Best Super Bowl promos & free contests

With all of the betting that happens in the Super Bowl, sportsbooks compete to attract customers. To try and make you pick their sportsbook over the competition, many offer extremely generous promotions and bonuses for the Super Bowl.

In the past, sportsbooks have offered a bonus bet. This means that if you lose your bet, your losing bet will be refunded in site credit. Most of the time, there is a maximum bet that will be refunded, usually around $500.

Sportsbooks often offer a 100% bonus on your first deposit. So if you haven’t yet used a certain sportsbook, sign up with them to get 100% of what you deposit in site credit, on top of your cash.

For example, if you deposit $500, they’ll give you a $500 bonus, meaning you’ll have $1,000 in your account. Check the terms and conditions for any rollover or cash-out requirements. Most sportsbooks require you to wager the bonus money in a certain timeframe.

Many sportsbooks will also offer boosted odds. This simply means the odds they offer on a certain market will be better than they normally are. If the line is usually -125 for Patrick Mahomes to throw over 2.5 touchdown passes, a boosted odd special might make the same bet +125 instead.

How to read NFL Super Bowl lines

Betting on the Super Bowl is no different than betting on a regular NFL game. Below is an example of odds you may expect to see for the Super Bowl:

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Indianapolis Colts-3.5-200Over 47.5
Green Bay Packers+3.5+170Under 47.5

Here’s what these bets mean:

  • Spread: The spread is a line set by oddsmakers that attempts to even the game and attract equal action on both teams. Spreads usually carry -110 lines, meaning both sides need to bet $110 on their side to win $100. In the above example, Indianapolis is 3.5 point favorites against the Packers. If you were to bet on the Colts to cover the spread, Indianapolis would need to win the game by four points or more. If Indianapolis wins by three points or less, or loses the game straight up, your bet loses. On the flip side, Green Bay is 3.5 point underdogs. If you bet the Packers, you would win your bet if the Packers either won the game or lost by 3 points or less.
  • Moneyline: The moneyline is set based on the expected probability of a team to win. In the above example, a -200 moneyline implies that the Colts have a 66.7% chance of winning the game. To win $100 on the Colts, you would need to risk $200 on the moneyline. On the flip side, if you think the underdog Packers will win the game, a $100 bet would win you a profit of $170.
  • Total: The total combines the amount of points both teams score in the game. If you think the Super Bowl will be a back-and-forth 28-24 game, you should bet the over. If you think the game will be a defensive 21-17 contest, the under might be the side you want to bet on. Just like the spread, both sides usually carry a set line of -110.

More ways to bet on the Super Bowl

In the above section, we outlined how to bet on Super Bowl basics — the spread, the moneyline, and the totals. However, there are still plenty of other ways to bet the game.

If you want to stick just to the football game, you can bet on who wins the game or which player will score a touchdown among many others. If you’re looking to get some quick early action, you can bet whether the pregame coin toss will be heads or tails, or which player will call the coin toss correctly.

If there’s a hockey game earlier in the day, you can bet what total will be higher: goals scored by the Chicago Blackhawks or field goals made by the Colts. These are called “cross overs,” and on Super Bowl Sunday, you’ll find dozens of them.

Super Bowl prop bets

A prop bet is a bet on whether a certain event happens. It doesn’t necessarily have to impact the final result of the game.

An example of a prop bet for the Super Bowl would be betting on Patrick Mahomes to throw for over 300 yards. If you bet that he does, nothing else in the game matters except whether or not he throws for that amount of yards.

For the Super Bowl, props extend way past the football field. You can bet on fun things such as what color Gatorade will be dumped on the winning team’s coach. You can also bet on the first song the half-time singer will perform and many, many more.

Super Bowl prop bets are what separates the Super Bowl betting market from any normal football game. Every NFL game has a spread, a moneyline, a total, and props related to the game. However, the sheer volume of available prop bets for the Super Bowl just adds to the spectacle.

The props relating to the football game are fun, but the real props that get people excited usually have nothing to do with football.

Just like with all bets, every sportsbook will differ in their offerings. Some sportsbooks will have a more limited offering on props, while others will go over the top.

Make sure to download multiple sportsbooks to check out the available options.

Majestic Star plans to offer Indiana sports betting by Super BowlLive Super Bowl betting

Live betting is becoming many people’s favorite way to bet a game. Live betting is betting on the game after it’s already started. The odds change based on what has already happened.

If you thought the underdog was going to win the game before it started, and then they score first, they likely will no longer be as big of an underdog as they were before the game.

If you know what to look for, live betting can be pretty profitable. You can notice that a quarterback is starting to figure out the opponent’s defensive scheme and then bet on that team to come back and win the game.

In the Super Bowl, live betting is very important, as both teams will make adjustments to what the other team is doing.

Super Bowl MVP betting

Betting on the Super Bowl MVP is an easy way to get involved with prop betting on the Super Bowl. But you won’t see the official MVP odds for all players until the two teams playing in the Super Bowl are decided.

However, some sportsbooks will release some Super Bowl MVP odds earlier in the playoffs. The top players from multiple teams will be listed as contenders. These odds will be more appealing the further away from the game you are.

A quick Super Bowl MVP betting tip:

The Super Bowl MVP goes to the quarterback of the winning team a vast majority of the time. Ten of the last 14 winners of the award have been quarterbacks. Tom Brady has won the award five times in his seven Super Bowl wins with the New England Patriots/Tampa Bay Bucs.

The two quarterbacks will always be favorites to win the MVP, so if you’re looking for more value, a defensive player might be your best bet. Look towards a player who can make a game-changing play on defense, usually by forcing a big fumble or making a huge interception.

Super Bowl betting trends & tips

  1. Back the AFC. As of 2022, the AFC has won 7 of the last 10 Super Bowls. However, the NFC has won the last two contests. With top contenders like the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, and Los Angeles Chargers, along with the Colts lining up to contend this year, the AFC has the power to get back on track.
  2. Moneyline may be the way to go. Only six times in 54 years has an underdog covered the spread but not won the game. It hasn’t happened since 2009 in Super Bowl 43.
  3. Four straight Super Bowl unders. While the overall Super Bowl over/under total record is 26-29, the unders have come in the last four years, even with offense at a record high.
