Halloween Parties, Sammy Hagar Highlight October At Indiana Casinos

With a three-day holiday weekend and Halloween in October, the month is packed with spooky-good entertainment at Indiana’s casinos.

As fall progresses, casinos in the state pack their calendars with a wide range of promotions and entertainment, including some family-friendly activities.

PlayIndiana has put together an October guide to concerts, promotions and other events at select Indiana casinos.

Hard Rock Northern Indiana

A blues-heavy lineup highlights the concert slate at Hard Rock Northern Indiana.

Here’s the October calendar for the casino’s two concert stages:

Horseshoe Indianapolis

Horse races

Races at the Horseshoe Indianapolis run through November. October’s schedule includes a marquee event, the fourth annual Indiana Champions Day on Oct. 28. The event features thoroughbred and quarter stakes with purses in excess of $1 million. The first race is set for noon.

Horseshoe Indianapolis has the only venue in the state for live thoroughbred and quarter horse racing. This month the quarter horse event is on Oct. 7 at 10:45 a.m. Children of guests can play at a playground near the paddock.

Online casinos in Indiana are not yet legal, but there is legal online horse betting — so attendees can bet on the horse races at the track or via any number of horse betting apps.

Casino promotions

Horseshoe Indianapolis also offers special promotions throughout the month.

  • Golden Gamer: Patrons aged 50 and over can participate in drawings on the casino floor from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the hour.
  • Caesars Rewards App Offer: Check the app for a credit multiplier offer.
  • 50K Cash is King: Every Friday evening in October, casino guests receive a complimentary entry in a drawing to win cash prizes
  • Colts Touchdown Multipliers: On Indianapolis Colts game days, patrons are guaranteed a 2X credit multiplier in the Caesars Reward app for each touchdown the team makes. Game dates in October: 1, 8, 15, 22, 29.

Horseshoe Hammond

As usual, Horseshoe Hammond has one of the best entertainment lineups at casinos in the state. From rock icon Sammy Hagar to smooth R&B balladeer Jeffrey Osborne, there is something for everyone in October.

The casino showcases a Halloween-themed version of the immensely popular RuPaul’s Drag Race for a “Night of the Living Drag” at the end of the month.

Blue Chip Casino Hotel Spa

When it comes to live shows, the Blue Chip Casino Hotel Spa in Michigan City always has a diverse, packed lineup.

  • Oct. 7: Feelgood Party Band (Chicago-based tribute band)

Rising Star Casino and Resort

Visitors to Rising Star Casino and Resort can enjoy free live entertainment all month. The casino’s Anchor Lounge hosts local and regional bands.

  • Oct. 7: Pandora Effect
  • Oct. 14: Retroactive Band
  • Oct. 21: Hotwired
  • Oct. 28: Channel Kats

In addition to the live acts, Rising Star is throwing a Halloween Dance and Costume Party on Saturday, Oct. 21, with music by Kristine Kabbes and the Skallywags, a Nashville-based country band.

Belterra Casino Resort & Spa

Belterra Casino Resort & Spa has two shows on the slate for October at its CenterStage Showroom. Fans of Freddie Mercury and Queen will enjoy “Killer Queen” on Oct. 13. The performance is a tribute to the late Mercury and Queen and is the longest-established worldwide Queen tribute show.

Later in the month, on Oct. 21, Poison frontman and actor Bret Michaels performs a solo show, “Fall Parti-Gras.”

Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg

Every Friday and Saturday, Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg hosts “Boogie Nights Dance Club.” Casino Player magazine calls it the “Best Nightlife” in Indiana. If you come in a disco costume, bouncers might let you in for free if you arrive before 11 p.m.

The party has theme nights on Fridays. Themes in October include:

  • Oct. 6: Flower Power
  • Oct 13: ’90s and 2000s
  • Oct: 20: Animal Print Night
  • Oct. 27: ’90s and 2000s

The casino gets into the seasonal spirit with an “Ultimate Halloween Bash” on Oct. 28. Partygoers who come in costume are eligible for prizes during the party.

Ameristar Casino Hotel East Chicago

Ameristar Casino Hotel East Chicago has a “Tricks and Treat” promotion for the month.  Patrons can claim free entries for a chance to win up to $10,000. Guests can use their PENN Play loyalty cards at kiosks to get free entries. Drawings take place on Oct. 7, 14 and 21, twice a day.

If you keep up with the NFL, you can enter the “Pro Football Pick’em Challenge” through Oct. 26. Submit a three-man roster of players who you think will score the highest each week. If your roster comes in the top five, you can win cash prizes up to $250. There is also a grand prize at the end of the challenge for contestants who have the overall top scores.

Bally’s Evansville Casino

Bally’s Evansville Casino has several promotions in October, ending with a Halloween-themed drawing. Guests earn entries for drawings by swiping their Bally Rewards cards at kiosks.

  • Oct. 1-28, $30,000 Cash & Camper Giveaway: Prizes include free slot plays, one $5,000 cash prize, and a grand prize of a Catalina Camper or $15,000 cash.
  • Oct. 14 $10,000 Cash Harvest Drawing: The casino will hold a drawing every 15 minutes for guests to win $250 in free slot play.
  • Oct. 15 Sunday $10,000 Jackpot Party: Open to members who have received at least a $1,200 jackpot after Jan. 1, 2020. Five winners every half hour will receive $500 in free slot play.
  • Oct. 20 Friday $20,000 Jackpot Party:  Open to members who have received at least a $1,200 jackpot after Jan. 1, 2020. Five winners every half hour will receive $1,000 in free slot play.
  • Oct. 21-22 $30,000 Monstrous Fun Free Slot Play Drawing: Earn entries based on your Bally Rewards tier. Drawings are throughout Saturday and Sunday every 15 minutes. Winners will receive $250 in free slot play and can win up to two times during the promotion.

Four Winds Casino South Bend

The entertainment slate at Four Winds South Bend includes live trivia on Sunday nights at its Kankakee Grille. Winners receive Four Winds gift cards.

The casino’s Halloween event is a “Monster Bash” featuring the Blammo!, a pop and rock cover band, and a costume contest. The grand prize of the contest is $1,000. Runners-up will receive Four Winds gift cards.

French Lick Resort & West Baden

The French Lick Resort hosts a wine and canvas event on Oct. 7. Enjoy painting while sipping wine. On Wednesdays in October, guests can take tours of the formal gardens of the West Baden Springs Hotel and learn tips on how to transform home gardens.

On Thursdays and Saturdays, kids and adults can go on hayrides and pick pumpkins in an autumn-themed atmosphere.

The annual Murder Mystery event takes place Oct. 27 through 29. The murder mystery weekend is based on the supernatural thriller “So Cold the River” by Hoosier author Michael Koryta, which was filmed at the West Baden Springs Hotel. Guests check in on Friday to begin their adventure solving a creepy mystery.

Harrah’s Hoosier Park Racing & Casino

Fans of ’70s and ’80s soft rock will get to see Air Supply at the Harrah’s Hoosier Park Terrace Showroom this month. The legendary Australian soft rock band still tours and will treat fans to their impressive catalog of international hits on Oct. 6.

Caesars Southern Indiana

Caesars Southern Indiana features Super Senior Wednesday all month. The promotion gives gamblers 55 and older who are members of the Caesars Rewards program a 3X reward credit multiplier every Wednesday.  Senior patrons who earn at least 70 tier credits on Wednesdays also get a free entrée at the casino’s The Piazza restaurant.

While there are no live entertainment acts during October at the casino, fans can buy tickets now for the Nov. 3 concert of rock band Foreigner’s farewell tour at the Caesars Event Center.
